After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate—former Beast Lord Curran Lennart—are adjusting to a very different pace. While they’re thrilled to escape all the infighting, Kate and Curran know that separating from the Pack completely is a process that will take time.

But when they learn that their friend Eduardo has gone missing, Kate and Curran shift their focus to investigate his disappearance. Eduardo was a fellow member of the Mercenary Guild, so Kate knows the best place to start looking is his most recent jobs. As Kate and Curran dig further into the merc’s business, they discover that the Guild has gone to hell and that Eduardo’s assignments are connected in the most sinister way…

An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it—before it takes their city apart piece by piece.

My Review:

This series is awesome. And I don’t just mean some of the books or even half of them, but every single book in the Kate Daniels series.

With a lot of series the first few books will be great, and then the story will start to slip a bit. Sometimes the story picks up again, other times, it just keeps slipping. Not so with the Kate Daniels books.

You should read this series in order. The story is so multi-layered that you will receive more enjoyment out of the books if you don’t miss books or skip around. And characters just become more and more developed.  I feel as if they are friends, and root for them.

I realize I’m telling you nothing about the plot, but that’s because if you’ve been reading from the beginning, you do not want spoilers. And if you need get the first book, then me telling you about the plot to this one is pointless.

The one little thing I do have to squee about a bit is that Kate and Coran quickly get tired of suburban life, although the homeowners association that they are a part of make for some very amusing moments in the story. Because of this, Coran decides to start rebuilding the Mercenary Guild that has fallen apart. I can not wait to see the direction Ilona Andrews decides to go.

Oh, and one more thing, the monsters and fights in this story are amazing. There are giants that have armor spreading up their body… how are you going to fight that? With Kate Daniels, it’s going to be by taking risks that others can not even imagine.

And then there’s… no, I can’t tell you. It’s going to be so cool when you read about them.

If you like Urban Fantasy, even just a little, I really think you will enjoy Kate Daniels. I could go on and on about how awesome this series is, but instead, I’ll let you be so you can go start at the beginning, or with whichever book you left off.
