One night I was out with my girls enjoying a much needed ladies night while wondering if one more dirty martini would push me over the edge. The next thing I knew, I was in the club’s bathroom listening to a woman screaming, “No,” and a man’s voice growling, “I know you want it.” That asshole picked the wrong restroom, in the wrong club, at the wrong time.

Little did I know the asshole was Cade’s VP, and although we saved that woman from his clutches that night, she’d be found floating in a motel pool a month later. Running a PI firm is a lot harder than taking pictures for one, especially when your professional life spills over into your personal one. I’m going through cupcakes like our new puppy goes through piddle pads, and if I’m not careful there’s bound to be a Cupcake Overload.

My Review:

I really enjoyed the first book in the Cupcake series, Always Room for Cupcakes (you can read my review here), so I was super excited when this one came out. Once again it was a fast read, and for those two hours it took me to finish, I laughed quite a few times. As I mentioned in my review for Always Room for Cupcakes, it reminded me of an R version of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, but without the love triangle that drove me crazy.

Bethany Lopez wrote Lila and her female friends perfectly. It felt as if I was out with my own friends; the way we talk and swear. A lot of the books I read don’t include swear words, and if they do, they can feel fake, as if the author put them in to make the book more hip. But the way Lopez wrote, they felt natural.

I do believe there were more sex scenes in this book, which makes sense since Cade and Lila are now a couple. Not only were the scenes really hot, but Lopez didn’t include any phrasing like, his pulsing member, which I was grateful for. I think those types of phrases work well in Regency Romances, but not so much for Contemporary.

I did feel as if the mystery was not as strong as in the first one, and a lot more of the main character’s time was spent with Cade or her girlfriends. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but if you are looking for a mystery/thriller, then you may be a bit disappointed. I still really enjoyed the book though since we got more character development with Lila’s friends. I am really excited to see how the budding romance with the lawyer goes.

If you enjoy funny books with strong female characters and steamy sex scenes, then you need to read this one…. Or better yet, if you haven’t already, read Always Room for Cupcakes and then Cupcake Overload.
