When Vivien Crenshaw, insufferable church organist and despised mother of the town’s spoiled-rotten Peach Queen, is stabbed to death, the police turn to Nola’s friend Ginny as prime suspect. Apparently the two had fought over a one-of-a-kind cotillion gown. As Nola steps in to prove Ginny’s innocence she soon finds herself picking through a bushel of suspects, twice as many motives, and at the mercy of a killer all too keen on killing again.
My Review:
I was happy to be returning to Cays Mill, and to get to know Nola and her friends more. Susan Furlong’s character development just keeps getting better, as well as the descriptions of the town, food, and Peach Cotillion. Just makes me want to go to Georgia even more.
I really enjoyed getting to know more about Ginny and Hattie. And we get to catch up with Joe, who is making the library his second home, which is wonderful! I do hope we get to see more of Nola’s sister and family in future books. And I can’t wait until Nola’s shop, Peachy Keen, is finally open. I can see lots of potential for new characters to be introduced (as staff), plus there will be a new location to find a dead body.
The one relationship that didn’t really seem to move at all though, was between Cade and Nola. To me it actually seemed to go backwards. Hopefully Furlong will make their status more apparent next book, or get rid of it completely.
Once again the mystery was done well, with lots of red herrings. Although I wasn’t shocked by the killer, it wasn’t until towards the end of the book that I put the clues together.
Another great addition to the Georgia Peach Mystery series, and I’m looking forward to War and Peach.
