The Eye of Nefertiti interweaves feline and human, past and present, natural and supernatural. It contains numerous surprises, twists and turns, intriguing characters, both human and animal, fascinating revelations about ancient Egyptian history and culture, and an ingenious application of the Tarot and an Italian opera.
My Review:
I was a bit concerned this being the second book in the Pharoah’s Cat series (and I didn’t read the first one), but Maria Lang did a great job giving enough background and context that I could still enjoy the book. You could read this one as a stand alone, but I think most series are better if you read all of them.
This book touches on numerous genres, including time travel, action, comedy, and a bit of romance, and does a fantastic job incorporating them in the story. And as far as the history parts, they are very well written, and you can tell Lang did her research.
The metaphysical aspects of the book combine seamlessly with the rest of the story. Which is really amazing since one of the characters is a talking cat. Land also handles dialogue very well, and had me chuckling out loud quite a few times.
Highly recommend this one, especially if you enjoy reading about Egypt, magic, time travel, or talking cats.
