The Girls in the Snow by Stacy Green is an excellent start to a new series. Nikki Hunt is a strong protagonist who is still being haunted by her past, but has the resilience to be able to grow through the events of this book. Green is able to combine a tragic event that happened twenty years ago to the current events in a seamless manner. With the story going back and forth between the two times lines I was never lost or confused.
Green also did a great job developing her characters. She gives us people to hate and really root for, and to me this always makes for an enjoyable read. There are also lots of red herrings and some twists. Even though I had an inkling of what was happening early on I still found myself rapidly turning the page to see what was going to happen next.
There was a bit at the end that I was a smidge frustrated with, mainly in the romance department. And with many thrillers a lot happens in the last few chapters, but I wish it would have been drawn out a bit more. But this won’t deter me from reading the next book in the series and checking out some of Green’s other books.
